What a HOT, HOT, HOT week! The children have coped really well with the heat this week.

Please remember hats, sun screen and water bottles!

Literacy
We have been busy editing and improving our stories and some of us have even started to publish them with their illustrations. We are really proud of the hard work we have put in to these extended stories and are looking forward to sharing them once they are finished.
They are looking very professional, including a front cover, blurb and some illustrations.

Homework:
Grammar sheet about adjectives.

Mathematics

In Mrs Prowle’s group, we have been learning about parallel and perpendicular lines and identifying them in different polygons. We then revised line symmetry and other properties of 2D shape. In pairs we used lots of this vocabulary to describe shapes for each other to identify and draw on the iPads.

Can you identify this shape from its description?

  • 1 set of parallel sides
  • no perpendicular sides
  • a quadrilateral
  • 1 line of symmetry
  • no right angles
  • 2 acute and 2 obtuse angles
Homework: Schofield and Simms

Mrs Williams and Mrs Gilder’s group we have been reviewing our work on multiplication. We know that we can use our knowledge of our multiplication tables to help us with larger multiplication questions. eg 5 x 4 = 20, so 50 x 4 = 200.

We extended our learning by using the inverse (division) to solve problems relating to a family of giants and their heights. Can you remember how to answer these questions?

Helga is 4 times as tall as Timmy.  Mum is 6 times as tall as Timmy.

How can you work out Helga’s height if you only know Timmy’s height?
How can you work out Mum’s height if you only know Timmy’s height?
How can you work out Timmy’s height if you only know Helga’s height?
How can you work out Timmy’s height if you only know Mum’s height?

For homework the children have some homework for the parents!

History

We have been 'History Detectives' and used the iPads to research stone age life.  We opened the website using a QR code. Can you remember what QR stands for?

This is the website we used for our research.

Art

Lime class have been enjoying finishing off our erupting lava paintings. After experimenting with different techniques, including using  straws, toothbrushes and our fingers, we produced some wonderful paintings inspired by Nick Rowland (http://www.nickrowlandartist.co.uk/). May you can look at some of Nick's other paintings and have a go at producing your own one. We would love to see them.
