Welcome back after the Easter Break.  We trust that you all had a good holiday and are feeling rejuvenated for the exciting term ahead of us.

Our theme for this term is imaginary worlds.

LITERACY

Maple and Poplar Class have started thinking about Fantasy stories. We have been identifying the main features such as magical creatures, imaginary worlds, vivid description, ‘made-up’ words and using extracts to get ideas. We used our imagination to draw a Hobbit hole while listening to the description from the novel by J.R.R. Tolkein.
Lime class have been finishing off our playscripts based on Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream.  We have really enjoyed learning about Shakespeare and managed to perform our scenes in Brambles to each other.

MATHEMATICS

In Mrs Prowle’s group, we are starting to learn about fractions. We have been using numicon to find fractions of quantities and are beginning to discover that some fractions are equivalent.
In Mrs Williams and Mrs Gilder’s group we have been practising reading the time.   Please practise this at home, particularly reading time to the nearest minute.
Mrs Roach's group have been practising subtraction.

SCIENCE
In Maple Class we started learning about different kinds of rocks. We looked at lots of different rock samples and came up with vocabulary to describe their properties before learning how to use a branching key to sort and identify them.
Lime class have been looking at the digestive system.

Topic
Our topic this half term is Earthquakes and Volcanoes. This week we started by learning about the structure of the Earth.  We were amazed by how thin the crust is and that there is a magnetic core in the centre.

ART
In art we are continuing our theme of imaginary worlds.  Each class made  some mud creatures in the woods.
