Literacy
The children have been keeping up-to-date with what is happening in the news this week.  After reading news reports on the BBC Newsround and First News websites we have used all of our knowledge to write our own news reports about the events in Nepal.

Mathematics
In Mrs Prowle’s group, we have been learning how to convert between mixed numbers and improper fractions which many of us have found very challenging!

In Mrs Williams and Mrs Gilder’s group we have been collecting data and putting it into bar charts.

In Mrs Roche’s group we have been practising division using a number line which we found quite tricky.

Science
Poplar Class have been looking closely at different types of rock to see what characteristics they have. We learned how to use a branching key to identify different rocks according to their colour, hardness and other features.

Topic

To understand the devastating events in Nepal we have been learning about tectonic plates and the different types of earthquakes.  We used crackers and rice cakes to demonstrate the effects of the plates colliding, separating and sliding against each other.

Art
We have been carrying out more activities outside. This week we have been making wands.  The children learnt how to whittle using a potato peeler and used their imagination in designing and using their wands.
